interesting erotic fantasy

Gillian Nordstram has agreed to become a pleasure giving submissive Disciple. She leaves behind her lover Bruce Wolff to receive training at Nemi in the art of sexual submission.

Sethlucius visits Bruce and offers him the job of a lifetime involving his Gilliam. Bruce initially assumes that Gillian's fantasies have entered his mind, but agrees anyway. As she fears but submits to winged beasts, he follows her with plans to be her only dominant.

This is an interesting erotic fantasy that star two intriguing lead human characters and a horde of paranormals. The sex scenes run the gamut and are very vivid while Gillian and Bruce are fully developed especially his initial self pity and her fears. However, the plot never fully seems developed so that this alternate reality never comes across except in the BDSM scenes. Still fans who relish something way different in their erotica will appreciate the sexcapades of Gillian and Bruce in another realm.

Gillian has consented to be a Disciple of Pleasure. Taken to Nemi, trained to be a sexual submissive, she thought she left her former life behind. But when she meets a former beau in this alternative reality, Gillian realizes that this man is the one whom she truly desires.

This highly erotic, Roquelare-type story includes f/f and very frequent, graphic, often bizarre BDSM scenes. It's difficult to discern if Ms. Howard created an alternate reality or simply another planet. Creatures, including angels and djinn, have been configured into the novel but with so little development it almost begs the question of their existence.

The hero is drunk and self-pitying in chapter one when he thought he lost Gillian, making him highly unlikable. Perhaps it's just as well that the author doesn't see fit to mention him for another forty-five pages. It also seems rather unrealistic that the heroine, albeit afraid of the winged beasts she encounters, is not terrified enough to avoid having sex with one when given the opportunity. If you seek a story full of inventive sex, this might be your thing. If you're looking for a well-developed story beyond frequent sex, you might want to give this one a pass.

Usually paranormal, vampire fantasy driven stories are not my cup of tea. That said, I liked this one. The main characters were quite human and in familiar quandaries. And who among us would not like 'divine' intervention in complicated human romances. Perhaps the ones in this book are a little elaborate and at times hard to follow, but they work.

About the Author
Langston Hughes (1902 1967) was born in Joplin, Missouri, and lived much of his life in Harlem, New York. As one America s most cherished chroniclers of the black experience, known for his work during the Harlem Renaissance, Hughes s work was constantly groundbreaking throughout his forty-six-year career. His poetry about the ocean and the symbolism that surrounds it stems from his travels through Africa and Europe working as a seaman.

Laughter and Living

Despite his considerable output of poetry, short stories and autobiographical work, this is Langston Hughes' only novel. It is the tremendously crafted story of Sandy, a black child of the 1920s in rural Kansas. In poignant tightly written chapters, Hughes' depicts various events in Sandy's life often slipping into the perspective of those closest to him. Sandy lives most his life with his strong-willed and deeply religious grandmother Aunt Hager. She is a benevolent woman who desires peaceful racial relations despite the overwhelming amount of racism and discrimination professed by both white and black community members. Sandy's mother Annjee is a loving and hard working woman eternally devoted to her husband Jimboy who is a good hearted man constantly on the move. Sandy's aunt Tempy is a well-off woman trying to immerse herself in white society and denigrating her own race in the process. His other aunt Harriett is a wilful woman who turns from the church for a different kind of existence. Through these expertly drawn characters, Sandy views their examples and he must make the choices that will effect his future. The novel is a tremendous chronicle of the struggle of a family to survive financially. It gives accounts of the psychological dilemma created by growing in a racially divided society and the diffuse joy in life that can be found even in troubling circumstances.
Maya Angelou wrote of Not Without Laughter: "This book was written when preachers had to be poets and poets were preachers, because they needed to be available to all the people all the time." The messages this novel gives are not subtle. But, through its varied perspectives and eloquently written prose, it envelops the issues it preaches with emotionally edifying ideas. It leaves the reader with a feeling of deep connection to all the characters, particularly the beautiful Sandy in whom we invest our hope and trust to fulfil his potential to become a good, intelligent and strong man who does not feel limited by his racial heritage despite any restrictions society may attempt to place for him. Although it may be a shame that Hughes never wrote another novel as he aptly demonstrated his skill in this one, Not Without Laughter stands as shining work be a skilled artist.

An Artist for all People!!!

For those who like and admire the poetic works of Langston Hughes, this is the book to purchase. This book collects all the "known" and "published" poems written by Hughes within his lifetime and at the different stages in his life. You have the so-called "race" poems that celebrate the dignity and beauty of black Americans, you have the poems of social protest such as those written during the 1930's that deal with inequality and injustice common to all regardless of race, the poems meant for children, and you even have the trite subject matter about love lost and found and springtime, nearly all written in the style of jazz and the blues that Hughes loved so much. Congrates must go to Arnold Rampersad and David Rossel for the effort in gathering these poems in their most current rendition as Hughes last wrote them. An effort was made by the editors to put the poems in the order they were written and published. A number of the poems were meant to be accompanied by jazz and blues music or read aloud in a specific way to drive home the point of the piece.

At first glance, all the poems collected in this book appear simple and straight foreward. But, Hughes was skilled at putting a lot of meaning into just a few lines of his work. An example are the poems "Cross" and "Mulatto" which tell how the mixed bloodlines of every decendent of the pure blooded African slave and European came to exist today in modern black America and how prejudice denied them the right to claim all their heritages (political correct stereotypes, labels, are doing the same today!!!). My favorite of the poems here is "Dream Variation." Carl Van Vetchen truncated some of the poem in his introduction to the the WEARY BLUES, the first book by Hughes. Langston's love for black Americans is evident throughout all his catalogue of work from essays, short stories novels, and plays as well as poetry. But this affection and the black pride he possessed did not exclude the bond of brotherhood he felt for all people regardless of race and color. This isn't to say that behind the famous smile there wasn't an angry black man. Hughes was angry at all the injustices against black Americans, but he did not let his anger consume and blind him. He bridled his anger and used it constructively, the testament of a true artist of the any people.

An amazing story of the influences and decisions in youth

Langston Hughes is a truly gifted writer. In this story he shows six different characters, all afflicted by racism and the numerous tactics each devises to combat its force. Their methods include,hating white america, enduring the blow, assimilating, laughing in the faces and then there is Sandy...He is slowing coming of age amidst all of these adults that he loves and admires, but soon he shall have to pick a path of his own. He knows that he must fight against the threat of racisim with out developing so much anger it consumes him as well. He knows must stand up for the race and culture he loves and some how advance his people with the power of his life. This story, is one of the best depictions of a black family that I have come across and can relate to. I miss Langston, and I love his legacy.

Great DIY resource for your C-class.

A serious repair manual (1244 pages) for anyone interested in DIY service on their 202 C-Class! The step-by-step maintenance chapter alone is worth the price of entry. Everything's covered from basic oil change to spark plugs, filters and fluid changes. With shop labor rates these days, it will pay for itself the first time you use it. There's also a great section on the electrical component locations and tons of wiring diagrams, if you're so inclined to dig in that deep. If you have any inclination to service your car yourself, this is a no brainer must-have.

I bought this for my 99 C230K. It is a good basic manual and appears to have all the wiring diagrams. In fact, about half of the book is wiring diagrams. It's not as complete as a factory manual. It doesn't have a lot of detail on disassembly of body and interior areas, there could be more figures and photos. The teardown instructions are brief but the pictures do help. It's a good starting point, but you may have to spend the extra money and get the factory CD if you want more detail.

Useless. It's a waste of money

I previously purchased a Haynes manual ($ 15) that helped me a lot with a Mercedes Benz model 1977 I had, and I loved the experience of having a beautiful car and be able to understand and solve some of the problems such an old car may show.

When I bought this book (approx $ 100!), I expected to have explanations, diagrams and procedures that helped me understand my new Mercedes Benz model 1996. When it arrived, I browsed it and noticed what I evaluated in my first review: A basic manual with little of what I expected, but apparently enough for my purposes, even though half the manual is dedicated to electric diagrams that are almost useless unless you are a professional electrician.

However, this year I have had three failures of my car (brake booster hose, fan clutch and belt rupture and, lately, an immobilizer blockage) and in none of them the book had any useful information. That is why I give this book one star evaluation; it won't help, so it was a waste of money, nice to showoff in a bookshelf, but nothing else.

Don't buy this book; rather, look for a Haynes manual.

Not worth getting, even for free

This little book is not worth the digital ink it takes to display it. And whoever Edwin Crane is, I suspect his real name is Wu Hu or Svengali Sorenson or Raja Minihahajani because English is not his native tongue or hand. The book can be read in about ten minutes and doesn't give you any information you couldn't already have gotten from Amazon ads, product descriptions, or the minimalist printed material that comes with the Echo. If there's any way I can get back the few bucks I paid for this sorry excuse for a book, I will. Don't make the same mistake I did in buying it.

This is a very lame guide to Echo, written more like an advertisement than a manual. The author's English isn't very good -- sounds like he isn't a native speaker. If the content was good, this wouldn't matter, but as it is, the book is a waste of money.

I REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK ABOUT ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL DIRECTORS OF LAST 2 DECADES. JAMES CAMERSON IS AN EGO MANIAC, PERFECTIONIST, WORKAHOLIC,SLAVE DRIVER. HE IS SELF CENTERED AND AROGANT. HE HAS HAD 4 MARRIAGES AND FAILED IN EACH. HE ALSO IS A TALENTED, SELF MOTIVATED, INTELLIGENT, AND CREATIVE PERSON. HE SEEMS TO STRIVE ON STRESS, PRESSURE, AND CHAOS. THIS BOOK CONTAINS MANY INTERESTING AND AMUSING TALES OF HIS DARK SIDE (MIJ). THE TELLING OF HIM GOING DOWN IN A MINI SUB TO DO SOME FILMING OF THE WRECKAGE OF THE TITANIC HIMSELF IS IN ITSELF A GREAT STORY. THIS IS A MUST FOR ANYONE WHO LIKES TO READ ABOUT BEHIND THE SCENES ABOUT MOVIE MAKING AND LIKES TO READ ABOUT GOSSIP CONCERNING SO CALLED HOLLYWOOD STARS. THE AUTHOR HAS A REALLY GOOD READ HERE.

If you like this director, overall, well worth a read

I picked up this book over the week-end, and finished it in a day. Being "unauthorized" it is actually a very well put together piece of work. The author has obviously used alot of reference material (he quotes Starlog alot) but reinforces this material with his own cast and crew interviews.
Unfortunately the sections on the films that preceed "The Abyss" are relatively light reads. The section on "Aliens" does however bring in some very interesting details about the production that I have never seen in print before...it does not however go quite far enough, I put it down wanting to know more.
Overall 3 out of 5...this book could have done more with the earlier period of this directors career.

A very interesting book to read.

Over my life the "unauthorized" biographies are usually books with sorted details of sex, drugs and other scandals. Those books are usually a real turnoff for me. However, Marc Shapiro has written a book that I found both fascinating and enlightening at the same time.
What Shapiro gives you is an inside look at the Filmmaker who is responsible for films like Titanic, The Terminator, True Lies and Terminator 2. Read and learn how Cameron got his start working for another film genius, Roger Corman.
While this book leaves you to ponder the question of whether or not Cameron was the power hungry, controlling and manipulating filmmaker some have claimed or is Cameron just another Hollywood Movie flake or possibly the film industry's greatest genius.
The quick and interesting read makes this book a real pleasure. If you like to read about how the movie industry moves and shakes than this book is one you'll want to add to your collection. Overall an excellent job and well worth the time to read!

A life changer (if you let it change it)

This book had such influence in my life that I fell compelled to contact the author privately.The author will embark with you in a journey from your childhood to the present day. This journey is not intended to be filled with nostalgia and good vibes though, it will be vivid and - possibly - cruel as it was back then, but in the end you will understand how necessary it was to relive all of those memories. This book IS NOT the usual self-help book with tricks and things to say to yourself. Sure, it has some tips on how to get rid of some of the mental traps you're in, but the main purpose of this book is to understand deeply why you are feeling this way. Having this knowledge, you're already in the way to relief. "It's your birthright to be happy", it was only when I first read this in this book that I realized that deep inside of me I didn't feel I was worthwhile of any happiness at all. This book is now a must have for me. I have to re-read from time to time, to get me in the right track. I couldn't thank you enough, Terry. One of those books that make you notice they mean a lot to the author.

The gas turbine has proven to be more revolutionary

Jet engines seem simple in concept and modern in practice. Like other technologies they have been readily accomodated into our lifestyle. Constant effectively demonstrates the turbojet was not the inevitable result of prior systems but rather the culmination of a process of technological change, which required the "prior successful co-evolution of piston aero-engines and streamlined airframes."(241). The turbine, from which the turbojet evoloved, has a long history going back centuries from water turbines, to turbine pumps, steam turbines, turbo-air compressors, internal combustion gas turbines and the turbo supercharger.

This process, according to Constant, can be represented by, what he terms, a "presumptive anomaly." In his model an individual or a group of individuals assume that a conventional technology will sooner or later fail and eventually be superceded by a superior system. Usually the insight and determination for this change comes from outside the established community and is the result of a vision of the future, not the dream of the past.

The four men responsible for the turbojet are Frank Wittle in England and Hans von Ohain, Herbert Wagner, and Helmut Schelp in Germany. None of them were a part of an established engine manufacturing company, but all were aware of advancing aerodynamic technology. Each independently deduced the new performance parameters required for the turbojet. Constant cautions that, while their work was revolutionary, they worked within the norms of a Western technological culture. In other words they had to prove that their technology was in fact superior and practical. In Constant's model a "new normal technology" in aeronautics was established in 1939 when England and Germany firmly committed to develop the turbojet engine.

A tradition for technological testing was also essential in the evolution of turbine power. Constant emphasizes its importance as "clearly critical, for without it, idealized scientific theory, however correct, could have only limited impact on the design of real world systems."(56 ) The ability to measure the efficiency of turbines permitted the advancement of the most efficient designs and, in the case of the turbojet, a means to measure its effectiveness against the prevailing piston technology.

At the time of his writing, Constant's focus on turbojet power (with the revolutionary SST and Concord in mind) seems to hold up well enough, but subsequent developments weaken his argument. The turbojet has not become the new normal technology. By shear numbers and the diversity of applications, the internal combustion gas turbine has arguably proven to be more revolutionary. Compared to the raw thrust of a turbojet engine, in a turbine engine most of the power is extracted from the gas flow as shaft output prior to it being exhausted out the tail pipe. This energy is then used to power not only aircraft, but also ships and tanks. Even experimental turbine powered automobiles were tested on American highways in the early 1960s. The distinction may be at first glance appear to be slight, but turbojet engines have had only a limited application in high performance military aircraft. The gas turbine is more widely used and more fuel efficient for general applications.

Constant does a credible job of tracing the development of turbines through the turbojet. While his "presumptive anomaly" model may have applications to particular historical analyses similar to turbine development, it is too specifically focused to be of general use.

This is an excellent and authoritative account of a true revolution in technology. It should be read alongside Vincenti's account ('What engineers know and how they know it') of lesser and purely evolutionary developments in engineering. Constant demonstrates how revolutionary change demands the application of science by individuals of outstanding mind, insight and persistence -a stark contrast to evolutionary development, reducible to a corporate process,as described by Vincenti.
