Having had a lot of the standard corporate training on communication I found this book to be a well needed breath of fresh air. It is concisely written and contains practical exercises you can use to test the principles for yourself immediately. I wonder when the 2nd installment will arrive?

Europe’s Atlantic façade has long been treated as marginal to the formation of the European Bronze Age and the puzzle of the origin and early spread of the Indo-European languages. Until recently the idea that Atlantic Europe was a wholly pre-Indo-European world throughout the Bronze Age remained plausible. Rapidly expanding evidence for the later prehistory and the pre-Roman languages of the West increasingly exclude that possibility. It is therefore time to refocus on a narrowing list of ‘suspects’ as possible archaeological proxies for the arrival of this great language family and emergence of its Celtic branch. This reconsideration inevitably throws penetrating new light on the formation of later prehistoric Atlantic Europe and the implications of new evidence for inter-regional connections.

Was the cradle of the Celts in the sunny peninsula?

What would you know? Eventually British scholars have discovered the vaste amount of textual evidence from Spanish Celts and try to fit them in a general theory about the origin and spread of Celtic languages.
John T. Koch from the University of Wales believes we need to give up the idea that Celtic was developed in central Europe, then spread westward during the 1st millennia BC. This theory leaves unexplained all the evidence for a Celtic language being spoken in the Iberian Peninsula at the time, since Iberia didn`t go through an intense Hallstatt or La Tene period, and there is no evidence of any major invasion from the north.
Instead, Koch claims Celtic developed as a trade language for the elites of the Atlantic façade of Europe during the Bronze Age, when intense trade and cultural contacts can be proven from Portugal all the way through Scotland.
The book comprises different essays from several different authors. I enjoyed especially the archaeology chapters. It is amazing how deep researchers have gone in order to reconstruct a period without any written record.
A great book to understand and celebrate all that connects and unites Europe Western rim.

Über den Autor:

Phillip P. Peterson arbeitete als Ingenieur an zukünftigen Trägerraketenkonzepten und im Management von Satellitenprogrammen. Neben wissenschaftlichen Veröffentlichungen schrieb er für einen Raumfahrtfachverlag. "Transport" war sein erster Roman, der Platz 1 der Science-Fiction-Romane bei Amazon und als Hörbuch bei Audible erreichte. Trotz seines technischen Hintergrunds stehen bei Peterson die Charaktere und die Spannung im Vordergrund. Zu seinen literarischen Vorbildern gehören die Hard-SF-Autoren Stephen Baxter, Arthur C. Clarke und Larry Niven.

Fermi's paradox revisited.

The novel is set in the near future, perhaps in 2030. A private company has perfected fusion energy, and uses it to generate large amounts of anti-matter to use as fuel for interstellar travel. The world is much worse than today, despite fusion providing almost unlimited cheap energy. Terrorism has increased. Individual privacy is a thing of the past. Conflict between America and China is imminent owing to competition over scarce resources in Africa.

The novel starts with the ageing International Space Station being destroyed and Voyager-2 dropping out of contact with the Earth at exactly the same distance from the Sun as Voyager-1 had done, around 134 Astromical Units. And a probe, sent out by the same company with the fusion/anti-matter technology, is lost to communication at exactly the same distance.

So, in a joint effort, NASA, the American military and the private company finance a manned mission to the outreaches of the solar system to investigate the reason for the phenomenon.

The first two thirds of the book deals with the preparation for the mission, which is perhaps a little long. The last one third has the core of the story. I wasn't expecting the ending, so the book succeeds in that point. Actually, it's a very good book. It's made me want to read 'Transport' the author's other book.

Real science fiction book with good pace

I really like the pace of this book and that it's real science fiction. For instance, the part where they transport near to a black hole and experience gravity gradients within narrow bands / distances from the transporter was interesting.

Fortunately or providentially the men and women who held to the theory that God commands his disciples to pray for money determined to put the matter to a fair test. They were led by a consecrated deacon, at whose house they held the weekly meetings. They did not ask the Lord for money at first, but prayed daily for instruction on the important question whether it was a duty, or was permissible, for men to pray for success in their secular business. There were four men and several business women whose experience was especially valuable. One of them was the owner or partner in a bookbindery. The company of believers devoted an entire evening to prayer for the prosperity of his business. They agreed, further, to pray for that one thing in unison at twelve o'clock each day for one week. The conditions were especially for observation, as the owner of the business was a devout, unselfish Christian who had determined, years before, to give a tenth of all his income to the Lord's work, and he stood willing to give his all if any good cause demanded such a sacrifice.

Russell Herman Conwell (February 15, 1843 – December 6, 1925) was an American Baptist minister, orator, philanthropist, lawyer, and writer. He is best remembered as the founder and first president of Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as the Pastor of The Baptist Temple, and for his inspirational lecture, Acres of Diamonds. He was born in South Worthington, Massachusetts, and was buried in the Founder's Garden at Temple University.

Not a book to learn how to make bioplastic... not for a real researcher... just data about bioplastic mostly.

I had hoped this book would have formulas to make bioplastic... but it only had a very small section on the subject. Mostly history... old at that much of it... and statistics...about bioplastic. I am looking for a book that explains in very much detail how to make it. And using many different materials. Mostly I am interested in making plastic... with algae. Back to the search engine.

Ok, could be better with more information on these polymers for industrial folks

Well written in the historical aspect of polymers that can be considered "green"/naturally-derived/biodegradable, but a bit thin on the current biodegradable polymers of industrial interest (PLA, PHBV) and their processing characteristics and properties. Also thin on emerging EU, US, ISO standards on biodegradability.

Worst textbook I have ever used.

I won't go into much detail about the frustrating and inadequate nature of this book, as many others have already done so. Basically, all you need to know about this book is that it is a waste of time. The author rarely explains anything with sufficient detail and seems to expect you to already know an incredible amount about aircraft structures. My TA even told us that we had better come to class every day, because the textbook is pretty much worthless.

I wondered why anyone would force students to waste money on a book that is cleary insufficient, but then I recognized the author's name. It seems the only reason why I am forced to buy this book is because the author is a professor at my school.

Just stay away from this book if you can.

Good book, but you should already know the basics

This is the required book for my graduate class on structures. Its best if you already have a familiarity with the basic concepts of stress and strain, torsion, bending, etc. It has good examples, though, and the problems at the end of the chapter are not too hard (tho, they do required a lot of algebra and plug-and-chug). There are not selected answers in the back.
If you're looking for a good basic book on structures, this one probably isn't for you.
Also, they don't actually talk a whole lot about applications to aircraft structures. What the book DOES do is cover the basic theories that one would need to start to analyze aircraft structures. It does not cover design of aircraft structures.

This book is not very usable if this is the first time you are seeing this material. Everything is presented as if only for review and you have already learned all the material before. I would pass on this book if possible

Pete Cardon teaches management communication, international business communication, and advanced business writing at the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California. His primary research interests are intercultural communication and computer-mediated communication. Do not buy this version of the book! Your teacher will likely ask for you to use a Connect access code, and this rental does not come with one. There is no clear warning about this, so verify with your instructor that you do not need that code. Otherwise you'll be paying twice the amount for another bundle just for that darn number combination. This product should clearly state that the access code is not included.

The book itself has great content. I am rating this 1 star due to the missing online component. I purchased this book for my Business Communications class and my professor uses the online component to the book called Connect. The book DOES NOT include the online registration code. Buyer beware. You can purchase an ebook version with the Connect access through McGraw Hill at a much better price. Amazon customer service, while very nice, could not solve the issue and I returned the book.

Joann's love of fantasy and science fiction inspired her to create the Brookehaven Vampires and their world. She lives in Northern California with her very supportive husband and their two wonderful children, along with what she likes to call her furry entourage-two tuxedo cats and a very devoted Aussie. Between being a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom and a wife, she spends her spare time, what little there is of it, hard at work on the next Brookehaven installment.

A Real Vampire Story to Sink Your Teeth Into

Laney, Book 1 of The Brookhaven Series by Joann I. Martin is a young adult vampir novel that exceeds any expectation for young adult novels today. The main character Laney is a wonderful representation of what it would be like to today's world if a nineteen year old met a cute boy in class and he happened to be a vampire, or at least in our dreams. The setting in in the real world, a small college campus, and the events that take place are easily ones that readers can picture themselves in.

The author makes her book so enjoyable because she makes her books relative in today's world. There is a scene where Laney, Oliver, Carter, and Kiera is watching a movie- Twilight and Oliver looks to Laney and asks if she likes vampires. It's a creative way of Sowles bringing her world to the real world of today.

The story was very fast paced and full of mystery and adventure. Eveything that was done or said was relating to that next clue or piece of the puzzle. The author left you wanting more at the end with many questions such as, "Is the head of the coven her father?", "What is Laney", " Why is Kiera getting dizzy?", and "Why did Laney not tell Oliver about her "dream?"

I can't wait for the next book. I have burnt out on young adult novels but once I began reading and entering her world I couldn't put it down. This book is great for the Twilight fans that have grown older and like stories much like Vampire Diaries. I highly recommed this book.

pretty good after the first third of the book.....

before things get way more interesting, the book was just a complete dud, and a copy of twilight, even to the specific adjectives sm uses in twilight. soooo much copy cat phrases and words, and nothing really happening, it really felt like a waste, and i was ready to give it up and go to the next book i'd bought. but, after a third of the book is over, it picks up quite a bit. there are some very interesting twists that are, thank goodness, different from twilight, that made it worth continuing with the reading. i would read the sequel, it's got some fairly good stuff going on, in terms of unanswered plot twists, alot of questions still when the book is over. i would recommend reading "a discovery of witches", not a ya book, but far more interesting, and not at all like twilight.

Fantastic Book!

Laney is the first book in the Brookehaven Vampire Series. I loved!

The characters in this book are enjoyable, a mixture of paranormal creatures, an evil character, but seriously EVIL. I hate him.

In the beginning, the love affair is tender, but at the same time, that kind of chemistry between the couple, which keeps you sighing and praying more. I really liked the relationship between them was developed gradually and not overnight. Oliver is in love with Laney and is not afraid to show it, that's incredible.

I want to see more of Laney's friends in the next book, because I have many doubts about them. I also need to check if what I think of Laney and his father is true.

Mrs. Sowles wrote a beautiful story filled with unforgettable characters and charismatic. A story filled with action, love and new things about vampires, creating a different world and completely charming. This is undoubtedly the best YA vampire book that I've read this year. Strongly recommended.
